Easy breakfast tips.

Many of us love breakfast, many of us don’t see the point in it. If it’s something you’re wanting to get better at but want to make it as quick and as easy as possible, here are a few guiding tips that I found useful as a student that did just that.

1) A breakfast doesn’t have to be all fancy in order to be nutritious or healthy. Even if it’s simple, it’s still something! Keep it basic with these quick and easy breakfasts:

  • Beans on toast, beans on a bagel, beans by themselves. Just… beans.

  • Peanut butter and banana on toast, on a bagel or as a toasted wrap. (Don’t forget to sprinkle a little cinnamon on top for extra zhuzh).

  • Yoghurt, fruit or granola. If you buy frozen fruits e.g. berries, pop a handful in a bowl and then in the microwave for 30 seconds or so. Then add your yoghurt and granola on top. Don’t make up the whole bowl and then chuck the whole thing in the microwave; warm yoghurt, probably not the best thing to get you ready for your day.

  • Cereal! There are so many accidentally vegan cereals! Eat them to your heart’s content.

2) Prep it the night before. Whether it’s chopping up any fruit you might want, mashing any tofu or simply cooking the whole thing to just reheat it in the morning; a quick 10-minute prep can make all the difference for the following morning.

3) Make the most of your kitchen appliances. Toasters, fridges and blenders are fabulous pieces of equipment that can speed up the process of making a great breakfast. For example:

  • Toast any leftover pancakes you might have frozen.

  • Fridges work a lot of magic. They make overnight oats and chia seed pudding all by themselves…! (Well, almost by themselves… but with a little smidgen of help from you you’ll have a whole breakfast ready to set in no time).

  • Make a quick smoothie if you’re in a rush to leave one morning, just to get something in you until you can get something more substantial to eat later.

Ways to speed up some easy breakfast recipes

1) Thick pancakes:

  • Make an extra big batch one Sunday morning and freeze them. When you want to eat them in the morning for breakfast, grab one and pop it in the toaster.

2) Tofu scramble:

  • Mash the tofu up the night before and cook it fresh in the morning.

  • Make the whole scramble the night before. All you have to do in the morning is then microwave it and toast the bread you wish to eat it on.

3) Chia seed pudding and overnight oats are two recipes that are prepared the night before anyway. Both take, quite literally, 10 minutes to prep. Banana breakfast muffins also have to be made before so you can make a big batch and grab one or two in the morning to enjoy with a hot drink whilst you take your time getting ready.
